Beam Strap Installation Guide for Faux Wood Ceilings
Practical installation guide for rubber beam straps used on polyurethane faux wood beams across European projects.
Across European faux-wood ceiling projects the banded beam detail is a recurring request: a metal-look strap that reads as a forged connection. Our strap reproduces it in flexible rubber, shipping flat and fitting on site without metalwork.
Step-by-Step Application
- Prepare the surface — Remove dust and grease from the section of the beam where the strap will sit. If the beam is painted, make sure the paint has fully cured.
- Measure and trim — Measure the girth of the beam. A 104 cm strap covers most sections; trim the excess with scissors, or join a second strap if more length is needed.
- Apply adhesive — Apply polyurethane-based mounting adhesive in a zig-zag pattern to the back of the strap. Do NOT use silicone — it will not bond.
- Wrap and join — Wrap the strap tightly around the beam and join the ends on the underside, where the seam stays out of sight.
- Cure and finish — Leave to cure for 24 hours. Use as-is in antique bronze or silver, or apply a top coat over the factory primer for a custom colour.

Because it is rubber, the strap follows square, chamfered and rounded beam profiles without cracking — useful when a project mixes several beam sections.
Quantity planning for a project
Calculate by girth, not by beam width: girth = 2 × (width + height). A 20×20 cm beam needs 80 cm, covered by one strap; a 25×30 cm beam needs 110 cm, so two straps are joined.
Visually, one strap per 80-100 cm of run keeps the rhythm even. For a 3 m beam that is 3-4 straps; leave 15-20 cm clear at the ends so the strap does not read as a cap.
Adhesive, curing and finishing
Use a polyurethane-based mounting adhesive. Silicone will not bond to the primed surface. Wrap under tension, close the seam on the underside and allow 24 hours before handling.
Top-coat with water- or solvent-based acrylic if a project colour is specified; dry-brush highlights restore the aged effect after painting.
