A decorative over-door ornament is a single polyurethane ornamental piece placed above a door opening. It is usually in the form of a crown, arch or central rosette and is used to highlight the door entrance. Polyurethane is lightweight; it is applied directly to the surface above the door with mounting adhesive and supported with screws when needed. It resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell; unlike wood it is unaffected by humidity, and it is lighter and more break-resistant than plaster. The surface can be painted over primer.
