above-door pediment

An above-door pediment is a polyurethane pediment piece placed horizontally on the upper part of a door, framing it from the top. It can be flat or curved and is mounted on the casing or directly onto the wall. At interior and exterior door entrances it creates a classical or neoclassical top accent. The polyurethane material is light and applies directly with assembly adhesive and screws; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell and can be painted. Being lighter than plaster makes above-door installation easier, and unlike wood it is unaffected by moisture. Because it is mould-cast, the profile and motif details repeat identically on every piece. Polure produces above-door pediment pieces in a range of widths and forms.
