A classic furniture appliqué is a polyurethane ornament with a raised pattern that is glued onto the surface of classic furniture. It is used to dress the front faces of furniture such as cabinet doors, chests, wardrobes and display cabinets. The polyurethane material is lightweight and applied straight to the wood surface with mounting adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell, and can be painted to match the furniture. Compared with a carved-wood equivalent it is lower in cost, faster to apply and adds no extra weight to the furniture. Because it is mould-produced, the pattern details repeat exactly on every piece.
