An architectural column accessory is the general name for polyurethane pieces such as capitals, bases and collars that complete a column shaft. Mounted on the lower and upper ends of the column shaft, they decorate the transitions and give the column a unified appearance. The polyurethane material is lightweight and applied with assembly adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell or warp and can be painted. Compared with a stone or plaster accessory it is far lighter and can be installed by one person. Because it is moulded, the piece details repeat identically on every column.
