A furniture appliqué is a polyurethane relief ornament glued to cabinet doors, display units and furniture facades. It usually features flower, leaf, scroll or baroque motifs and is used to give a plain furniture surface a carved appearance. It is widely preferred on classical and country-style furniture. Polyurethane is lighter than wood carving and is applied to the surface with wood glue or construction adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell or warp, and can be painted to match the furniture colour.
