oval ceiling medallion (decorative)

An oval ceiling medallion is an oval-form, usually patterned polyurethane ceiling ornament mounted at the centre of the ceiling. It frames the point where the chandelier, pendant or lighting fixture is hung, creating a decorative focus on the ceiling. Polyurethane is lightweight and is fixed directly with mounting adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell, and can be painted. Being lighter than plaster, installation is completed quickly. The oval form gives a harmonious appearance on the ceilings of rectangular and oval-plan rooms.
