A carved ceiling motif is a polyurethane decorative element with relief patterns that have a hand-carved look, applied to the ceiling surface. It is typically used around a ceiling medallion, within a ceiling panel, or together with cornice for ornamentation. In classic and neoclassical interiors it is chosen to emphasise the centre of the ceiling. The polyurethane material is light; it is fixed to the ceiling with mounting adhesive and, where needed, screws. It resists moisture and impact, does not crack, blister or warp, and can be painted; it is lighter and faster to install than carved wood. Because it is cast in a mould, the carved detail of the motif repeats identically on every piece. Polure produces carved ceiling motifs in a range of patterns and sizes.
