Above-window ornamentation is the general name for decorative polyurethane elements used on the top edge of a window; it covers relief, profile and arch forms. It is used on facades and in interiors to emphasise the top of a window. Polyurethane is lightweight; it is applied directly with adhesive, resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell, and can be painted. Compared with plaster, the risk of breakage is low; compared with wood, it stands up to damp. Because it is moulded, details repeat identically on every piece.
