A rustic fireplace surround is a wood-textured, rustic-look polyurethane frame element placed around a fireplace. It is used around fireplaces and decorative hearths to create a rough timber-look surround. The polyurethane material is lightweight and applied directly with mounting adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell or warp, and can be painted. Unlike real wood it does not absorb moisture and swell and is not attacked by insects, and compared with plaster it is lighter and more break-resistant.
