A rustic ceiling support is a wood-textured polyurethane decorative support element that makes ceiling beam and rafter joints look as if they are bearing a load. It is used at ceiling beam ends and wall junctions to complete the load-bearing appearance. The polyurethane material is lightweight and applied directly with mounting adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell or warp, and can be painted. Unlike real wood it does not absorb moisture and swell and is not attacked by insects, and compared with plaster it is lighter and more break-resistant.
