round column base moulding

A round column base moulding is a load-bearing and decorative element with a circular section located between the shaft of a cylindrical column and the floor. Forming the base of the column, it supports the shaft and gives the column composition a settled appearance; it usually has a profiled, stepped section. In decorative column systems it serves as the base. Round column base mouldings made from polyurethane are lightweight and mount easily and quickly. They resist moisture and impact, do not crack or swell, and can be painted; they are unaffected by damp.
