- Step 1: Surface Inspection and Layout Marking — Clean the installation area thoroughly to remove dust, oil, and moisture. Mark reference lines along the wall using a laser level, maintaining standard heights for skirting boards and wall paneling layouts. Estimated time: 15-30 minutes per room. Common mistake: Installing profiles on damp or dusty surfaces, causing adhesive failure.
- Step 2: Measuring and 45-Degree Miter Cutting — Measure the wall sections accurately, accounting for profile depth at corners. Cut the rigid polyurethane profiles at 45-degree angles using a fine-tooth miter saw. Estimated time: 5-10 minutes per cut. Common mistake: Cutting profiles too short or using hand saws without a miter box, resulting in uneven corner gaps.
- Step 3: PU Adhesive Application and Cable Routing — Route any low-voltage cables neatly into the cable channel on the back of the skirting board. Apply continuous beads of polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive along the top and bottom bonding channels on the back of the profile. Estimated time: 5 minutes per length. Common mistake: Using standard silicone, which lacks necessary shear bonding strength.
- Step 4: Mounting and Mandatory Mechanical Fixing — Press the profile firmly against the wall. Drill pilot holes through the designated recessed points every 40-50 cm, insert wall plugs, and secure with countersunk screws. Estimated time: 10-15 minutes per length. Common mistake: Omitting mechanical screw fixings and relying exclusively on glue.
- Step 5: Joint Filling and Sanding — Fill all miter joints, wall junction gaps, and countersunk screw heads with joint putty using a flexible putty knife. Allow the putty to cure completely, then sand smooth with grano 180-220 sandpaper. Estimated time: 30-45 minutes. Common mistake: Using coarse sandpaper under 150 grit, which scratches the factory primer finish.
- Step 6: Paint Application — Clean off all sanding dust. Apply an optional coat of primer over exposed putty areas if required, followed by two coats of premium water-based or UV-resistant exterior paint. Estimated time: 1-2 hours drying time between coats. Common mistake: Applying non-UV resistant paint for outdoor installations, leading to premature yellowing.
