- Step 1: Surface Inspection and Layout — Inspect the mounting substrate to verify it is structural, clean, dry, and free of loose plaster or oil. Establish plumb line references using a laser level and mark the centered footprint of the bottom base and top capital on the floor and ceiling. Estimated Time: 20–30 minutes per column position. Common Mistake: Installing on damp or uncleaned masonry, which compromises PU adhesive bonding strength.
- Step 2: Precision Measuring and 45-Degree Miter Cutting — Measure the overall floor-to-ceiling height at three separate points around the installation mark. Deduct the combined heights of the base and capital to determine the exact length of the column shaft. Perform cuts using a fine-toothed saw, executing 45-degree miter cuts at profile edges or seam joints where halving cuts meet. Estimated Time: 25 minutes. Common Mistake: Cutting without accounting for floor level variance, resulting in uneven seams at the capital junction.
- Step 3: Base and Capital Positioning with Mechanical Anchor Drilling — Position the bottom base onto the marked floor template, level it using shims if required, and pre-drill mounting holes into the floor substrate. Insert wall dowels and secure the base mechanically using stainless steel screws. Repeat the alignment process for the top capital on the ceiling soffit. Estimated Time: 30 minutes. Common Mistake: Relying exclusively on adhesive without drilling wall dowels, leading to potential displacement.
- Step 4: Shaft Encasement and PU Adhesive Application — Apply continuous beads of polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive along the contact edges of the shaft halves, base sockets, and capital connections. Clasp the shaft halves together around the structural post, insert countersunk screws through pre-drilled holes at 300 mm to 400 mm intervals, and verify vertical alignment with a spirit level. Estimated Time: 35–45 minutes. Common Mistake: Using standard silicone instead of high-strength PU assembly adhesive, causing joint separation.
- Step 5: Joint Filling, Sanding, and Surface Preparation — Countersink screw heads slightly below the material surface. Fill all screw indentations, vertical split seams, and horizontal joints with an exterior-grade polyurethane joint filler. Allow the filler to cure fully, then sand all joints smooth using grano 180-220 sandpaper to achieve a seamless surface transition. Estimated Time: 40 minutes (excluding adhesive curing time). Common Mistake: Using coarse sandpaper below 180 grit, which scratches the factory-primed skin of the rigid polyurethane.
- Step 6: Primer Verification and UV Topcoat Painting — Wipe away all sanding dust with a tack cloth. Inspect the factory-primed surface; apply an optional coat of acrylic primer over filled joints if required. Apply two complete topcoats of high-grade UV-resistant exterior paint (or water-based interior paint for indoor applications) to protect the structure from solar radiation. Estimated Time: 30 minutes per coat. Common Mistake: Omitting UV-resistant paint on exterior applications, leading to surface yellowing under direct sunlight.
