- 1. Substrate Preparation and Inspection — Clean the mounting surface thoroughly to remove dust, oil, loose plaster, or moisture. The installation substrate must be entirely dry and structurally sound. Estimated Time: 15-20 minutes per section. Common Mistake: Applying adhesive over loose dust or damp masonry, which prevents proper chemical bonding.
- 2. Measurement and Miter Saw Cutting — Measure the target opening accurately and transfer dimensions to the polyurethane profile. Cut the ends using a miter saw set to a precise 45-degree angle for corner or return joints. Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes per profile. Common Mistake: Cutting without accounting for the profile depth, leading to misaligned miter joints.
- 3. Polyurethane Adhesive Application — Apply a continuous bead of polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive along the rear contact surfaces and joint edges. Never use silicone. Estimated Time: 5-10 minutes per profile. Common Mistake: Using silicone sealant instead of dedicated polyurethane adhesive, causing bond failure.
- 4. Mounting and Mandatory Mechanical Fastening — Press the crown firmly against the surface. Drill pilot holes through designated recessed points and secure the piece with dowels and screws into the wall structure. Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes per anchor point. Common Mistake: Skipping mechanical screw anchoring and relying only on adhesive.
- 5. Joint Filling and Surface Sanding — Fill screw recesses and profile seam joints with technical joint putty. Once cured, sand the joints smooth using grano 180-220 sandpaper until flush. Estimated Time: 20-30 minutes (plus curing time). Common Mistake: Using coarse sandpaper (below 180 grit), which scratches the polyurethane surface.
- 6. Coating and Final Painting — Apply an optional coat of primer over filled joints, followed by two topcoats of quality paint. Exterior installations require UV-resistant outdoor paint. Estimated Time: 1-2 hours (excluding drying time between coats). Common Mistake: Omitting UV-resistant paint on exterior facade installations.
