A furniture ornament is the singular name for a polyurethane decorative piece added to a furniture surface; it can take the form of an appliqué, relief, crown or motif. It is used for decoration on surfaces such as cabinet doors, drawer fronts or headboards. Polyurethane is lightweight and applied directly with assembly adhesive or wood glue; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell or warp, and can be painted. Being lighter than carved wood, it adds no load to the surface, and it is more break-resistant than plaster. Because it is mould-cast, details stay identical on every piece.
