above-window ornament

An above-window ornament describes a relief or profiled polyurethane decorative element applied to the top edge of a window. It is used on facades and in interiors to adorn and emphasise the top of a window. Polyurethane is lightweight and is applied directly with adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell, and can be painted. Installation is faster than with plaster and, compared with wood, it stands up to damp. Because it is moulded, the ornament details repeat identically on every piece.
