A decorative furniture motif is a relief polyurethane ornamental pattern worked into or added to a furniture surface. It is used on cabinet doors, headboards, consoles and drawer fronts to create a decorative look with classical or floral patterns. The polyurethane motif is lightweight and is applied directly to the surface with mounting adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell, and can be painted to match the furniture colour. Being light and quick to apply compared to wood carving, it is also used to refresh existing furniture. Because it is mould-produced, the pattern details repeat identically on every piece.
