A decorative ceiling dome is a mostly round or oval polyurethane element that forms a concave dome shape in the ceiling. It is used to give height and depth at the centre of the ceiling and to hang the chandelier from within the dome. It is applied in classic living rooms, entrance halls, and hotel lobbies to add volume to the ceiling. Polyurethane dome is far lighter than plaster or concrete; it is fixed to a recess or surface prepared on the ceiling with mounting adhesive and, where needed, screws. It resists moisture and impact, does not crack or blister, and can be painted. Being lightweight, it installs without loading the ceiling.
