short column base

A short column base is a polyurethane base element that forms the lower section of low-height columns and seats the column onto the floor. Fitted onto the lower end of the column shaft, it widens the base and provides an even seating surface; it is used in short decorative column, partition and console applications. The polyurethane material is lightweight and is applied with construction adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell or warp, and can be painted. Because it sits close to the floor, it does not deteriorate even when exposed to water and moisture, which gives it an advantage over wood and plaster bases.
