Carved Corbel

A carved corbel is a decorative polyurethane support piece with a carved-motif surface that carries horizontal elements such as cornices, eaves or shelves from below. Beneath cornices, at eave ends and under shelves it gives a diagonal support look while serving a decorative purpose with its carved ornamentation. The polyurethane material is lightweight; it is applied with construction adhesive and, where needed, screws, resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell, and can be painted. Unlike wood corbels it is unaffected by moisture, and unlike plaster it is not brittle. Because it is mould-cast, the carved details are the same on every piece. Polure produces carved corbels in a range of sizes and motifs.
