A fireplace side support is a polyurethane element, usually corbel-shaped, that serves as a structural or visual support on the side of a fireplace unit. It is used to give the impression that the top slab or shelf section of a decorative fireplace is being supported from the sides. The polyurethane material is lightweight and applied with mounting adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or warp and can be painted. Because it is mould-cast, the curves of the support profile repeat identically on every piece and two opposing supports stand symmetrically.
