Above-fireplace ornamentation is an ornamental polyurethane decor process applied to the area above the top slab of a fireplace unit. It is used to create motifs and profiles around a mirror, picture or crown above a decorative fireplace. The polyurethane elements used are lightweight and applied with mounting adhesive; they resist moisture and impact, do not crack or warp and can be painted. Because they are mould-cast, the ornament details repeat identically on every piece and give a symmetrical look. Being lighter and easier to cut than plaster equivalents makes a tidy alignment in the upper area easier.
