An above-fireplace crown is a profiled, projecting polyurethane band placed on the topmost edge of a fireplace unit. It is used to crown the upper section of a decorative fireplace and create a classic finish and transition. The polyurethane material is lightweight and applied directly with mounting adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or warp and can be painted. Because it is mould-cast, the crown stays the same along its profile and the corner joints sit cleanly. Being lighter than plaster or timber equivalents makes installation in the upper area easier.
