When compared to plaster, EPS styrofoam, or natural marble, high-density polyurethane offers a balanced combination of durability and ease of installation. Plaster is notoriously heavy, fragile during transport, and susceptible to water damage. Natural stone requires expensive masonry labor, heavy structural support, and complex anchoring systems. EPS styrofoam lacks the surface hardness required for ground-level applications and cannot hold fine, crisp details. The patterned column base provides the fine detail resolution of plaster and the durability of wood without their respective physical limitations. It can be easily sawed, sanded, puttied, and painted, allowing for seamless integration and repair if damaged by impact.
Surface Preparation and Coating Requirements
Every patterned column base is delivered pre-treated with a high-quality factory primer. This specialized coating prepares the polyurethane surface for the application of finish paints, ensuring optimal adhesion. However, because different paint brands have unique chemical formulations, paint manufacturers typically do not guarantee their coatings unless their proprietary primers are applied first. For this reason, applying an additional primer layer prior to final painting is optional and remains the responsibility of the client. For exterior installations, the use of high-quality, UV-resistant paint is mandatory to protect the raw polyurethane from UV-induced yellowing and degradation.

When used outdoors, applying a UV-resistant paint coating is mandatory to prevent material yellowing.
Installation
Installing a Patterned Column Base requires precise alignment and proper mechanical fastening to ensure long-term stability: 1. Preparation: Ensure the installation surface is dry, clean, and free of dust, grease, or loose debris. 2. Alignment: Use a laser level to mark the exact positioning, ensuring the vertical column axis aligns perfectly with the center of the base. 3. Cutting: Perform any necessary trimming or miter cuts at a 45-degree angle using a fine-toothed saw. 4. Adhesive Application: Apply a generous, continuous bead of polyurethane (PU) mounting adhesive to all contact surfaces of the base. Do not use silicone adhesives, as they do not provide sufficient structural bonding. 5. Mechanical Fastening: Secure the base to the wall or floor using screws. Mechanical fixing is mandatory to prevent movement while the adhesive cures. For large models like the P5560, heavy-duty L-brackets or mechanical anchors should be used. 6. Finishing: Fill all screw holes and joint lines using a high-quality exterior-grade putty. Once dry, sand the areas smooth using 180-220 grit sandpaper. 7. Painting: Apply an optional secondary primer if required by your paint manufacturer, followed by two coats of premium water-based or synthetic paint (UV-resistant paint is mandatory for outdoor applications).
Care Information
Maintaining polyurethane decorative elements is exceptionally straightforward compared to natural wood or stone. For routine cleaning, wipe the surface of the Patterned Column Base with a damp microfiber cloth and a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid using harsh chemical solvents, acidic cleaners, or abrasive scrubbing pads, as these can damage the paint finish and the underlying factory primer. To remove dust from deep ornamental relief patterns, use a soft-bristled brush. Thanks to the highly stable, closed-cell structure of the material, it will not warp, rot, or harbor mold, ensuring an operational lifespan exceeding twenty years with minimal maintenance.
