decorative over-door pediment

A decorative over-door pediment is a crown-shaped polyurethane ornamental piece applied to the upper part of a door opening. It is used to frame the door entrance from above and give the passage a classic accent. Polyurethane is lightweight; this allows the over-door installation at height to be done by a single person with mounting adhesive. It resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell; unlike wood it is unaffected by humidity, and it is lighter than plaster. The surface can be painted over primer, so it matches the door and wall colour. Because it is mould-cast, the profile and relief details of the pediment repeat identically on every piece.
