A decorative corner beam is a polyurethane ornamental element used at the ceiling corner joint to give the look of a structural beam. It is used at ceiling corners, coffered-ceiling returns, and the wall-to-ceiling transition to create a rustic or classic look. Polyurethane is lightweight and applied with construction adhesive and concealed screws; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell, or warp, and can be painted. Being far lighter than a real wood beam, it adds no load to the ceiling and is easy to install. Cast in a mould, the wood texture and details repeat identically on every piece.
