Polyurethane Circular Short Roman Columns

Architectural Legacy and Spatial Design of Circular Short Roman Columns

The architectural heritage of classical antiquity continues to influence high-end modern designs. The circular short Roman column represents this historical aesthetic adapted for contemporary spatial layouts. Typically designed with heights ranging between 100 cm and 110 cm—including prominent models such as P83000, P83001, and P83005—these structural elements serve as decorative pedestals or focal display units. With a standard base dimension of approximately 350x350 mm and heights around 1070 mm, they provide an ideal height for showcasing art without disrupting the visual flow of a room. The circular geometry allows for a fluid transition of light and shadow, softening the spatial transition in neoclassic, eclectic, or minimalist interiors.

Technical Specifications and Rigid Polyurethane Material Science

Engineered for demanding architectural projects, these short columns are manufactured from high-density rigid polyurethane (PU) with a closed-cell structure. This advanced formulation offers distinct physical advantages over traditional gypsum or concrete:

• Density: 150-220 kg/m³ provides wood-like structural hardness while remaining lightweight for easy transport and installation. (Note: Density is strictly within the 150-220 kg/m³ range, avoiding heavy structural dead-load issues).
• Dimensional Stability Test: Dimensional stability has been tested between -20 °C and +70 °C with a reduced risk of deformation or cracking.
• Moisture Resistance: Water absorption is below 1%, making the material virtually impervious to humidity, rot, and mold.
• Fire Behavior: The material has fire class B2 (DIN 4102-1).
• Dimensional Stability: High resistance to shrinkage, expansion, or warping under shifting atmospheric conditions.

Surface Coating, Primer Guidelines, and Paint Application

Each circular short Roman column is supplied with a factory-applied primer coat that prepares the surface for final finishing. However, professional installers should note that paint manufacturers typically do not guarantee their coatings unless their proprietary system primers are applied first. Consequently, the application of an additional primer layer before painting is optional and remains the sole choice and responsibility of the client. Polure does not guarantee or accept liability for any paint products applied to the columns.

For exterior installations, coating the column with a high-quality UV-resistant paint is mandatory to prevent potential yellowing caused by direct sunlight. The non-porous surface of the column is highly compatible with water-based acrylic, latex, or synthetic paints, allowing for advanced decorative finishes such as faux-marble or gold leafing.

Structural Advantages Over Gypsum and Timber

When compared to traditional materials, rigid polyurethane columns offer superior performance. Heavy gypsum plaster alternatives are highly fragile, difficult to install, and easily damaged by moisture. Natural timber columns are prone to cracking, insect infestation, and rot over time. Polure's high-density PU solutions resolve these limitations, delivering durable, impact-resistant, and easily repairable decorative elements that can be sanded, patched, and repainted to ensure a long lifespan.
