A decorative balustrade is a polyurethane railing element that forms a safety edge along balconies, stairs, and terraces while also serving as ornamentation. It is used as the run of pieces beneath a handrail set between newel posts, or as a ready-made panel, giving a classic facade look. Polyurethane is lightweight and applied with construction adhesive and mechanical fixings; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell, or warp, and can be painted. Because it is unaffected by moisture outdoors, it needs less maintenance than wood and is lighter than stone or concrete. Cast in a mould, its profile and details repeat identically on every piece.
