above-door curve

An above-door curve is a curved (arc-form) polyurethane decorative piece applied to the upper part of a door. It frames the top line of the doorway with a soft curve, creating an arch-like appearance. It is used at interior and exterior door entrances, as well as above windows and niches, where a classical curved transition is wanted. The polyurethane material is light and applies directly with assembly adhesive and screws; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell and can be painted. Because it is mould-cast, the curved profile repeats at the same radius on every piece, providing a consistent curve that is hard to achieve by hand in plaster. Being lighter than plaster makes installation easier. Polure produces above-door curve pieces in a range of radii and widths.
