Column decoration is the process of dressing a structural or decorative column with polyurethane base, shaft and capital elements to give it a classical or modern look. It is applied in interiors and exteriors to give a column a distinct character; the shaft, base and upper capital are made up of parts that complement one another. The polyurethane material is lightweight and is applied directly to the column surface with installation adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or blister, and can be painted any colour. Because it is lighter than plaster and wood, it is easier to fit on tall columns and adds little load. Since the parts are mould-produced, the flutes and ornamental details repeat identically on every piece.
