The P5840C50 half-column serves as a decorative architectural element designed to introduce classical structural aesthetics to interior walls and exterior facades. Featuring a distinctive helical design, this semi-circular column acts as a prominent wall-mounted feature that enhances flat surfaces with sculptural depth and movement.
Manufactured from high-density rigid polymer (150-220 kg/m³), this component offers the structural hardness of wood while remaining lightweight. With cross-sectional dimensions of 200x400 mm and a height of 2600 mm, it is perfectly proportioned for standard and high-ceiling installations. Its closed-cell structure guarantees less than 1% water absorption, making it resistant to moisture, rot, and decay, unlike traditional plaster or timber alternatives.
Visually, the model is defined by its deep, twisting helical grooves that wrap around the shaft, creating a dynamic play of light and shadow. The top of the column features a clean, smooth collar block that provides a structured transition, balancing the ornate motion of the spiral body. This specific configuration allows it to adapt seamlessly to classical, Baroque, or eclectic architectural themes.
This versatile decorative column is highly suited for framing grand entrance portals, villa facades, and veranda walls. Indoors, it acts as a premium focal point in luxury hotel lobbies, spacious restaurant halls, and wedding venues. Being a flat-backed half-column, it mounts flush against the wall, saving valuable floor space while delivering the visual impact of a full dimensional pillar.
Installing this lightweight element is straightforward compared to heavy stone or concrete alternatives. It is fixed using polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive combined with mechanical screws for permanent stability. The surface comes factory-primed to prepare for painting; however, since paint manufacturers do not guarantee unprimed coatings, applying an additional primer layer remains optional and is left to the customer's discretion. Once installed, it can be painted with any water-based or synthetic paint, requiring UV-resistant coatings for outdoor applications.
- This polyurethane half-column is designed for both interior and exterior architectural applications
- On exterior facades, it is ideal for flanking main entrance gates, framing large windows, or supporting veranda structures (purely decoratively)
- Inside, it serves as a dramatic wall-mounted feature in spacious living rooms, hotel lobbies, boutique offices, and grand dining halls
- It can be paired with matching pedestals and capitals to create a complete classical pilaster look, transforming plain drywall or masonry into a high-end architectural statement
- Ensure the mounting surface is clean, dry, and structurally sound
- Apply polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive to the rear contact edges of the half-column
- Press the column firmly against the wall and secure it mechanically using screws at key intervals to ensure long-term stability
- Fill any screw holes and joint lines with a suitable high-grade filler or outdoor-grade joint paste
- Once dry, sand the filled areas with 180-220 grit sandpaper
- Apply an optional additional primer if recommended by your paint manufacturer, followed by two coats of high-quality water-based or synthetic paint
- For outdoor installations, a UV-resistant topcoat is mandatory
- Due to its durable closed-cell polyurethane composition, this column requires minimal maintenance
- For indoor applications, regular dusting or wiping with a damp cloth is sufficient
- Avoid using harsh acidic or abrasive chemical cleaners
- For outdoor installations, we recommend checking the paint surface once a year to ensure the UV-protective coating remains intact
- If any physical scratching occurs, the area can be easily repaired with a touch-up of exterior filler, light sanding, and a fresh coat of matching paint
Can this column be used as a load-bearing structural support?
No, this column is strictly a decorative architectural element. While it is highly durable, impact-resistant, and rigid, it does not possess load-bearing capabilities. For structural support, it must be installed around an existing steel or concrete load-bearing post.
Is this column suitable for outdoor wet areas and coastal climates?
Yes, absolutely. Thanks to its closed-cell structure, the material has water absorption of less than 1%. It is highly resistant to moisture, humidity, marine salt air, rot, and insects, making it far more durable than wood or plaster in outdoor environments.
What type of adhesive and fasteners should be used for installation?
You must use a high-quality polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive for bonding the column to the wall. Do not use silicone-based adhesives. Additionally, mechanical fastening with screws is mandatory to ensure the column remains safely secured while the adhesive cures.
Does the column come prepainted or ready to paint?
The column is delivered with a factory-applied white primer coat that prepares the surface for painting. To ensure long-term paint adhesion and to comply with paint manufacturer warranties, applying an extra layer of primer before your final coats is optional but recommended.
How does polyurethane compare to plaster or gypsum columns?
Polyurethane is significantly lighter than plaster, which reduces structural load and simplifies installation. It is highly impact-resistant and will not crack, chip, or crumble over time. Assess water and moisture exposure using the product technical data, surface finish and installation details.
