A furniture ornamental motif is the repeating pattern or figure carried by a polyurethane decorative piece applied to furniture surfaces. Motifs such as leaves, flowers, acanthus or geometric forms are used as decoration on cabinet doors, drawer fronts and furniture crowns. Polyurethane is lightweight and is mounted directly onto the surface with adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell or warp, and can be painted. Being lighter than a carved wood motif, it adds no load to the surface, and it is more break-resistant than its plaster equivalent.
