polyurethane plinth base

A polyurethane plinth base is a decorative element placed at the foot of a column or pilaster shaft, raising the shaft off the floor and giving it a supporting appearance. In classical architecture it acts as the lower part of the column order, forming the transition between shaft and floor. The material is lightweight and bonds directly with mounting adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, will not crack, swell or warp, and takes paint well. Because it sits close to the floor, its resistance to moisture is an important advantage; unlike plaster and timber it does not deform in damp areas. As each piece is cast from a mould, the profile detailing repeats identically and matches the dimensions of the column capital.
