A fireplace accessory is the general name for the polyurethane decorative and functional pieces used to complete the area around a fireplace; it covers consoles, corbels, crown elements and corner pieces. It is used to create a classic or plain look around decorative fireplace units. The polyurethane material is lightweight and applied directly with mounting adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or warp and can be painted. Because it is mould-cast, the surface details of the accessories repeat identically on every piece. Being far lighter than plaster or natural stone equivalents, it puts little load on the wall and installs quickly.
