In contemporary architectural design, minimalist aesthetics and clean geometries have become the standard for both residential and commercial projects. The Düz Sütun (smooth column) category represents a refined approach to structural decoration, stripping away ornate historical carvings in favor of sleek, uninterrupted vertical lines. Manufactured from high-density rigid polymer foam, these elements provide the visual weight and presence of classical masonry without the associated structural loads or installation complexities. Their smooth surface profile acts as a versatile canvas, making them highly suitable for modern, neoclassical, and minimalist designs across Europe.
Technical Specifications and Material Integrity
Our Düz Sütun profiles are engineered to meet strict technical standards, ensuring reliable performance in diverse environments. Key material characteristics include:
- Density: 150-200 kg/m³, offering a structural hardness comparable to wood while remaining lightweight and easy to handle.
- Thermal Stability: Temperature resistance ranging from -20°C to +80°C ensures no warping, shrinking, or form loss under extreme climate fluctuations.
- Moisture Resistance: A closed-cell structure keeps water absorption under 1%, preventing rot, swelling, and mold growth.
- Fire Behavior: The material is self-extinguishing, meaning it ceases to burn once the external flame source is removed.
Architectural Versatility and Dimensional Options
To accommodate various spatial scales, our product line features diverse diameter and structural configurations. Models such as the P5820B, with its 200 mm diameter, are perfectly proportioned for narrower interior corridors, residential entryways, or subtle wall segmentations. For grander architectural scales, such as hotel lobbies, corporate headquarters, or spacious villa facades, the P5840B model offers a commanding 400 mm diameter. In addition to full round columns, we manufacture half-columns and flat wall pilasters (such as the B50 series). These low-profile variations allow architects to introduce rhythmic vertical relief along flat walls without sacrificing valuable floor space, a technique highly favored in premium European hospitality projects.
Surface Preparation and Coating Protocol
Every Düz Sütun element is delivered with a factory-applied primer, which prepares the surface for the final color application. While this factory coating ensures a uniform base, please note that paint manufacturers generally do not guarantee paint adhesion unless their own proprietary primers are applied first. Therefore, the application of an additional primer prior to final painting is optional and remains entirely at the customer's discretion. Polure does not provide warranties for any paints applied to our products and accepts no liability for third-party coating performance. For all outdoor installations, the application of a high-quality, UV-resistant paint is mandatory to protect the raw polymer material from yellowing under direct sunlight.
Usage Areas
Our Düz Sütun elements are widely specified across both interior and exterior architectural projects. Indoors, they are utilized to define distinct zones in open-plan residential layouts, frame grand doorways, and create focal points in luxury hotel lobbies, reception areas, and high-end restaurants. Externally, these smooth columns serve as stately entrance features for private villas, decorative supports for balcony overhangs, and vertical architectural accents along modern facades. Their resistance to moisture makes them particularly suitable for high-humidity coastal regions and damp interior environments where traditional plaster or wood columns would quickly degrade.
Installation
Successful installation requires careful surface preparation and mechanical securing. Begin by ensuring the installation surface is dry, clean, and free of debris. Measure and cut the column sections using a fine-toothed saw or a dedicated miter saw at a 45-degree angle for seamless joints. Apply a generous bead of high-quality poliüretan (PU) montaj yapıştırıcısı along the contact edges; do not use standard silicone adhesives, as they fail to form a permanent bond. Mechanical fixing with screws is mandatory to ensure long-term stability. Once secured, seal all joints and screw heads using a high-grade exterior putty. After the putty dries, sand the surfaces with 180-220 grit sandpaper, apply an optional primer if desired, and finish with two coats of UV-resistant paint.
Care Information
Maintaining these smooth columns requires minimal effort. Regular dusting with a damp, non-abrasive cloth is sufficient to keep interior columns clean. For exterior installations, surfaces can be washed down with low-pressure water to remove environmental dust. The non-porous surface prevents stains from penetrating deeply. In the event of minor physical impacts or scratches, the affected area can be easily restored by applying a standard acrylic putty, sanding it smooth with fine-grit paper, and reapplying the matching topcoat paint.
