The P5840B50 is a high-performance architectural polyurethane half column designed to bring clean vertical lines and structural depth to modern and classical building designs. With dimensions of 200 mm in depth, 400 mm in width, and a height of 2400 mm, this semi-circular hollow shaft acts as an excellent cladding solution for covering exposed structural posts, steel beams, or simply creating decorative wall pilasters. Its smooth, unadorned surface offers a minimalist aesthetic that integrates into diverse architectural styles without overwhelming the surrounding decor.
Manufactured from high-density rigid polyurethane (150-220 kg/m³), this element provides the strength and surface hardness of wood while remaining incredibly lightweight. The closed-cell molecular structure provides low water absorption, making it resistant to rot, mildew, swelling, and insect damage. Its dimensional stability has been tested between -20 °C and +70 °C, ensuring that joints do not crack or shift under extreme seasonal weather changes.
The minimalist profile of the P5840B50 makes it a favorite among contemporary designers. It features a perfectly smooth, flat surface that can be left plain for a sleek modern look or paired with decorative capitals and bases to recreate classical Doric, Ionic, or Corinthian styles. This modular versatility allows architects to customize the visual scale of the column to match the specific proportions of any residential or commercial project.
This half column is suitable for both interior and exterior applications. Indoors, it is commonly used to frame grand entryways, decorate hotel lobbies, divide large restaurant spaces, or add structural interest to living room walls. Externally, it is ideal for highlighting villa entrances, detailing porch pillars, and accentuating facade corners. Its hollow interior is highly functional, allowing installers to easily hide electrical wiring, sound system cables, or plumbing pipes within the wall cladding.
Installation is efficient due to the lightweight nature of the material. After preparing a clean and dry surface, the shaft is mounted using a high-quality polyurethane (PU) mounting adhesive—silicone must not be used. Mechanical fastening with screws is mandatory to ensure permanent stability. The joints and screw heads are then filled with acrylic filler, sanded with 180-220 grit sandpaper, and finished with paint. While the product comes with a factory-applied primer, we recommend applying an additional primer layer according to your paint manufacturer's guidelines. For all outdoor installations, a UV-resistant topcoat is required to prevent surface yellowing.

- Indoors, it serves as a stunning decorative pilaster in grand entrance halls, hotel lobbies, corridors, and spacious living rooms
- It can be strategically placed to frame large doorways, fireplace surrounds, or to break up expansive flat walls with clean vertical lines
- Its hollow semi-circular design also makes it highly practical for concealing structural pipes, conduits, or wiring without sacrificing aesthetic value
- Outdoors, this model is ideal for framing villa entrances, supporting porch or veranda canopies, and creating majestic facade divisions
- When combined with matching capitals and bases, it transforms plain walls into classical architectural statements
- Begin by preparing a clean, dry, and dust-free mounting surface
- Measure and cut the half column shaft to the required height
- Apply a high-quality polyurethane (PU) mounting adhesive along the rear edges of the profile—do not use silicone
- Press the column firmly onto the wall and secure it mechanically using screws to guarantee long-term stability
- Once the adhesive cures, fill all screw holes and joints with an appropriate acrylic filler
- Sand these areas smoothly using 180-220 grit sandpaper
- While the product arrives with a factory-applied primer, paint manufacturers typically recommend applying an additional primer layer for optimal paint adhesion and warranty coverage
- Complete the installation by applying two coats of paint
- For outdoor projects, a high-quality UV-resistant paint is mandatory to prevent discoloration
- Maintaining the P5840B50 column is simple and straightforward
- For interior setups, occasionally wipe the smooth surface with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust
- If installed on exterior facades, the column can be washed with water; however, avoid using high-pressure washers directly at close range or harsh, abrasive chemicals that could degrade the paint
- Periodically inspect the paint finish on outdoor installations to ensure the protective UV coating remains intact
- If any minor physical damage or scratching occurs over time, the surface can be easily repaired with standard exterior filler, sanded down, and repainted to restore its original appearance
Is the P5840B50 column suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, the P5840B50 half column is fully compatible with exterior applications. It is made from high-density rigid polyurethane with a water absorption rate under 1%, meaning it will not rot, warp, or crack under freeze-thaw cycles. To protect the material from sunlight, you must apply a UV-resistant topcoat paint after installation.
Can this half column cover existing structural pipes or pillars?
Absolutely. The P5840B50 features a hollow semi-circular interior profile. This makes it an ideal architectural cladding solution for concealing structural steel columns, concrete pillars, exposed drainpipes, or electrical conduits, transforming functional elements into beautiful design features.
What type of adhesive should be used during installation?
You must use a specialized polyurethane (PU) mounting adhesive to mount the column to the wall. Do not use silicone adhesives, as they do not provide the necessary structural bond. Additionally, mechanical securing with screws is mandatory to ensure long-term stability and safety.
Does the column require an extra layer of primer before painting?
The column is delivered with a factory-applied white primer that prepares the surface for painting. However, paint manufacturers usually require their own primers to be used under their topcoats to honor paint durability warranties. Therefore, we recommend applying an additional primer layer based on your chosen paint brand's instructions.
How does this product compare to traditional plaster columns?
Unlike heavy, brittle plaster columns that easily chip and crumble, the P5840B50 is exceptionally lightweight, shatterproof, and easy to handle. It is highly moisture-resistant, making it far superior for high-humidity interiors and exterior facades where plaster would degrade over time.
