Polyurethane Fluted Wall Panel for Walls
A polyurethane fluted wall panel is a decorative grooved wall covering for residential and commercial interiors. This guide explains orientation, painting, installation and quantity planning.

What is a polyurethane fluted wall panel
A polyurethane fluted wall panel is a decorative wall covering with raised profiles and vertical or horizontal grooves. It is also known as a grooved wall panel, slatted wall panel or decorative fluted panel.
Compared with traditional panelling, a fluted panel focuses mainly on the repetition of its grooves and the depth of its linear effect. Traditional panelling may include frames, recessed sections and more elaborate mouldings, while a fluted panel creates a continuous, rhythmic surface.
Polyurethane elements are decorative and non-load-bearing: they must not support loads, televisions, chandeliers or other weights.
Where to use fluted wall covering
Fluted wall covering is suitable for interior walls where you want to introduce a regular, contemporary texture. The best surface depends on the furnishing scheme, the visibility of the wall and the desired decorative effect.
- A TV wall can become an orderly backdrop for the screen and surrounding furniture.
- The wall behind a bed headboard can create a more intimate and dramatic setting.
- In a corridor, a grooved wall panel can accompany the route and enhance a linear wall.
- In shops, showrooms and offices, it can define a reception wall, display area or branding backdrop.
Vertical and horizontal orientation
The orientation of the grooves changes how the wall is perceived: vertical lines tend to draw the eye upwards, while horizontal lines follow the lateral development of the surface.
Vertical installation can emphasise perceived height and create continuity on a TV wall or behind a bed headboard. Horizontal installation can highlight the width of a corridor, entrance or commercial wall.
For a consistent result, the grooves should align between adjoining panels. Before installation, check the direction of the elements, the sequence of the raised profiles and the alignment of the joints.
Can a fluted wall panel be painted?
A fluted wall panel can be painted when the surface is prepared according to the product instructions. The factory primer is indicated by white 1K acrylic primer and helps prepare the panel for the finishing coat.
Use a water-based finish compatible with the substrate. A roller helps cover the raised surfaces, while a brush allows more precise application in the bottom of the grooves.
Apply the finish evenly, checking recessed areas and panel edges. It is advisable to test the finish on a concealed section before treating the entire surface.
Adhesive installation and joint treatment
Fluted wall panels are installed with the adhesive indicated by PU-based mounting adhesive, applied to a clean, dry and suitably prepared surface.
Panels should be positioned together and aligned according to the groove pattern. Joints and connection points can be treated with paintable acrylic filler to create a more even surface before finishing.
Silicone is not suitable for installing these decorative elements. For preparation, application and finishing, follow the instructions in the product sheet and adhesive documentation.
How to calculate the required quantity
The required quantity is calculated by comparing the wall surface with the panel dimensions listed in the relevant product sheet.
Consider the wall width and height, the selected layout, cuts near corners and the continuity of the grooves between adjoining elements. For a more precise estimate, use the dedicated calculator and check the result against the installation plan.
Add the allowance required for cutting, adjustments and pattern alignment to the total. For flat panels, use the allowance indicated by 10%.
