The P5820C50 decorative column shaft introduces a dynamic architectural dimension to both interior walls and exterior facades. Featuring a distinctive helix design, this semi-circular profile creates a continuous play of light and shadow along its vertical axis. Designed to meet the requirements of premium residential and commercial projects, it serves as a sophisticated wall pilaster or decorative pillar cover that enhances vertical proportions without adding structural complexity.
Manufactured from high-density rigid polymer (150-220 kg/m³), this structural component offers a robust, wood-like surface hardness while remaining exceptionally lightweight. With physical dimensions of 100 mm in depth, 200 mm in width, and a generous height of 2600 mm, it perfectly accommodates standard ceiling heights and can be easily trimmed to fit bespoke spaces. The closed-cell material formulation ensures water absorption remains under 1%, preventing rotting, swelling, or warping in high-moisture environments.
The visual signature of the P5820C50 is its deeply defined spiral grooves, wrapping symmetrically around the curved surface. This sarmal texture evokes classical European architecture, making it an excellent fit for neoclassical, Baroque, or eclectic design schemes. The product arrives with a factory-applied matte primer, providing a uniform base. While this surface is ready for finishing, applying an additional specialized primer is recommended by most paint manufacturers to secure their coating warranties; this choice remains at the discretion of the installer, as Polure does not cover paint performance.
This versatile profile is highly suited for framing grand doorways, accentuating fireplace breasts, or dividing expansive salon walls into balanced segments. In commercial settings, it adds depth to hotel lobbies, restaurant backdrops, and wedding halls. For outdoor applications, such as veranda pillars or entrance porticos, finishing with a UV-resistant exterior paint is mandatory to prevent discoloration from sunlight exposure.
Compared to heavy gypsum plaster or moisture-sensitive timber, this lightweight alternative reduces installation time and labor costs. Mounting requires a combination of polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive and mechanical screws to guarantee long-term stability. Once secured, seams and screw heads are easily filled, sanded, and painted to achieve a seamless, continuous appearance.
- This spiral half-column shaft is highly versatile, acting as an architectural highlight in both residential and commercial spaces
- Indoors, use it to frame classical doorways, flank fireplace surrounds, or create decorative wall divisions in luxury living rooms and dining areas
- It is an excellent choice for hotel lobbies, boutique retail displays, and wedding halls seeking a touch of classical grandeur
- Outdoors, when coated with UV-resistant paint, it can be applied to dress up structural concrete pillars, veranda posts, or entrance porticos on villa facades
- Combine it with matching bases and capitals to create a complete, cohesive architectural column look
- Ensure the installation surface is clean, dry, and flat
- Measure and cut the column shaft to the required height using a fine-toothed saw
- Apply a generous bead of polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive along the rear mounting edges and joint lines
- Press the column firmly against the wall and secure it mechanically using screws at regular intervals to prevent movement while the adhesive cures
- Fill all screw holes and joint seams with an exterior-grade acrylic filler or joint paste
- Once dry, sand the filled areas using 180-220 grit sandpaper
- Applying an additional primer coat before painting is optional but recommended for paint warranty compliance
- Finish with two coats of high-quality water-based or synthetic paint (UV-resistant paint is mandatory for outdoor applications)
- Maintenance is exceptionally simple
- The non-porous surface can be wiped clean using a damp cloth and mild soap
- Avoid using abrasive sponges or harsh chemical solvents that could damage the paint finish
- For outdoor installations, inspect the paint coating annually to ensure UV protection remains intact, and repaint if necessary
- Low-pressure water washing can be used to remove outdoor dust and debris
Can the P5820C50 column shaft carry structural loads?
No, this product is strictly decorative and cannot be used as a load-bearing column. It is designed to be mounted flush against walls or wrapped around existing structural steel or concrete posts.
Is this spiral column suitable for humid or outdoor environments?
Yes, thanks to its high-density closed-cell structure, the water absorption rate is less than 1%. This makes it highly resistant to rot, mildew, and moisture damage, making it suitable for bathrooms, spas, verandas, and exterior facades.
Do I need to apply an extra primer before painting?
The column comes with a factory-applied primer. However, paint manufacturers typically require their own primers to validate their paint warranties. Applying an additional primer is optional and at the customer's discretion; Polure does not accept liability for paint performance.
How does this product compare to plaster or wood columns?
Unlike plaster, it is lightweight, shatter-resistant, and significantly easier to transport and install. Compared to wood, it does not warp, split, rot, or attract wood-boring insects, offering a much longer lifespan with minimal maintenance.
What type of adhesive should be used for installation?
You must use a high-quality polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive for bonding. Standard silicone adhesives should not be used. Additionally, mechanical fastening with screws is mandatory to ensure long-term structural safety.
