Molded from premium rigid polyurethane (PU), these architectural elements replicate the visual weight and grandeur of traditional stone, marble, or plaster work without the associated structural weight and installation complexity. For European architects, designers, and restoration professionals, these column bases provide an efficient, durable, and highly detailed solution for sophisticated interior and exterior projects.

Material Specifications and Technical Capabilities

The performance of the Polure column Alt Kaide collection relies on its advanced material formulation. Manufactured with a high-density range of 150-220 kg/m³ (production target ~160 kg/m³), these bases possess a wood-like hardness and structural rigidity while remaining remarkably lightweight. This density ensures high impact resistance, protecting the column bases from foot traffic, cleaning equipment, and daily wear. Unlike traditional plaster, which is prone to cracking, or wood, which is susceptible to rot and insect damage, our closed-cell polyurethane structure exhibits a water absorption rate of under 1%. This negligible moisture permeability ensures exceptional dimensional stability, preventing shrinkage, expansion, warping, or splitting over time. Engineered to withstand temperature fluctuations from -100 °C / +80 °C, these components maintain their physical form and structural integrity across diverse climatic conditions. In terms of fire safety, the material is self-extinguishing, meaning it ceases to burn once the external flame source is removed, providing an added layer of safety in commercial and residential developments.

The column Alt Kaide product line is designed to accommodate various column diameters and design languages, from understated minimalist profiles to highly detailed classical orders. Our range includes compact square plinths such as the P5920B (256x256x114 mm), mid-sized options like the P5930B (384x384x170 mm) and P5940B (512x512x227 mm), and grand, large-scale bases like the P5950B (640x640x280 mm). For projects incorporating pilasters or half-columns against flat wall surfaces, we offer dedicated half-profile versions designated with a '50' suffix, such as the P5920B50 and P5940B50. These specialized profiles ensure a seamless, flush fit against the wall, maintaining perfect classical symmetry. Additionally, models like the P5920C (350x350x133 mm) offer distinct geometric transitions that allow designers to customize the visual weight and transition style of the column assembly.

Surface Finish and Custom Paint Applications

Every column Alt Kaide is delivered with a factory-applied primer (primer coat) that seals the surface and provides a uniform foundation for paint adhesion. This factory finish is fully compatible with high-quality water-based and synthetic decorative paints, allowing for custom treatments such as faux-marbling, antiquing, gold leafing, or standard monochromatic finishes. Regarding paint application, the factory-applied primer is designed to prepare the surface for subsequent coatings; however, because paint manufacturers do not guarantee paint adhesion or longevity without the use of their own proprietary primers, applying an additional primer coat prior to final painting is optional and remains at the sole discretion and preference of the customer. Polure does not provide paint warranties and accepts no liability for the performance of third-party coatings applied to our products. For all exterior installations, the application of a high-quality, UV-resistant exterior paint is strictly mandatory to protect the polyurethane from discoloration and yellowing caused by solar radiation.

The Superior Alternative to Traditional Materials

When evaluated against traditional building materials, rigid polyurethane offers clear economic and physical advantages. Plaster bases are fragile, heavy, and highly susceptible to moisture damage during transport and installation. Exterior concrete or stone plinths require heavy machinery, structural reinforcement, and extensive labor to install. Wood bases require ongoing maintenance, sealing, and are vulnerable to rot in damp environments. In contrast, Polure column bases are shatterproof, lightweight, and can be handled easily by a single installer. They can be easily sanded, puttied, and modified on-site to match specific architectural alignments. This reduces labor costs, shortens project timelines, and ensures a maintenance-free architectural feature that retains its pristine appearance for decades.
