Polyurethane Fluted Column Shaft Model

The P5880 Polyurethane Fluted Column Shaft is an exceptional architectural element designed to bring classical grandeur and structural elegance to large-scale residential and commercial projects. Measuring an impressive 800 mm in diameter and 2400 mm in height, this substantial column shaft offers a commanding presence. It is specifically engineered to deliver the majestic aesthetic of traditional masonry without the excessive weight and complex installation challenges associated with stone or concrete.

Manufactured from high-density rigid polyurethane, this column shaft features a density of 150-220 kg/m³, providing a robust, wood-like hardness that resists impacts and structural wear. Its closed-cell physical structure ensures a water absorption rate of less than 1%, making it highly resistant to rot, decay, and moisture damage. Capable of maintaining high dimensional stability, this durable shaft has been tested between -20 °C and +70 °C and will not warp, shrink, or crack, even when exposed to severe seasonal weather shifts.

Visually, the shaft exhibits a series of deeply recessed, symmetrical vertical flutes that run the entire length of the column. These classic grooves create a dynamic play of light and shadow, adding depth, verticality, and architectural texture to any facade or interior hall. The top-down view reveals a hollow core design with a sturdy wall thickness, making it highly versatile for structural cladding while remaining lightweight enough for straightforward manual handling during installation.

This decorative column shaft is ideal for grand entrance porticos, luxury hotel lobbies, wedding venues, spacious outdoor verandas, and high-ceilinged residential salons. It can be paired with compatible polyurethane capitals—such as Corinthian, Ionic, or Doric styles—and solid bases to create a complete, balanced classical pillar system. Its hollow center makes it particularly useful for wrapping around existing structural steel posts or concrete supports, instantly turning functional supports into beautiful design features.

Installation is highly efficient when compared to heavy stone alternatives. The shaft sections are bonded using polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive and must be secured mechanically with screws at the top, bottom, and along any vertical seams. Once fixed, joint lines and screw heads are filled with exterior-grade filler, sanded smooth with 180-220 grit paper, and prepared for painting. Polyurethane's shatterproof nature ensures that the column remains pristine throughout the installation process and over years of service.

The column shaft arrives pre-finished with a factory-applied primer that prepares the surface for coating. While this primer facilitates excellent paint adhesion, paint manufacturers typically only guarantee their products when their proprietary primers are used first; therefore, applying an additional primer coat is optional and remains at the customer's discretion. For all outdoor installations, the application of a high-quality, UV-resistant paint is mandatory to protect the polyurethane from yellowing under direct sunlight.
