Architectural Elevation and Structural Aesthetics
In classical and neo-classical architectural design, the crowning details of windows, doors, and portals define the structural character of a building. The collection of Architectural Pediments and Crowns (architectural pediments) by Polure represents a sophisticated synthesis of traditional design principles and modern material engineering. Manufactured from high-density rigid polyurethane (PU), these ornamental headers provide a lightweight, durable, and highly detailed alternative to heavy plaster, timber, or natural stone. With a density profile of 150-220 kg/m³, these components offer a wood-like surface hardness while maintaining a low weight threshold, preventing unnecessary structural loads on building facades and interior partition walls.
Technical Specifications and Material Benefits
The engineering behind high-density polyurethane ensures that each piece within the Architectural Pediments and Crowns category delivers long-term durability in diverse climates. The closed-cell molecular structure has a water absorption rate of less than 1%, rendering the profiles highly resistant to moisture, rot, and insect damage. These profiles exhibit excellent dimensional stability across a wide temperature spectrum, maintaining their precise shape from -20 °C / +70 °C without warping, shrinking, or expanding.
Key material advantages include:
- High Impact Resistance: Unlike fragile expanded polystyrene (EPS) or traditional plaster moldings, high-density PU does not crumble, crack, or shatter upon impact.
- Acoustic Performance: The closed-cell structure provides supplementary acoustic dampening at joint areas.
- Fire Behavior: The material has fire class B2 (DIN 4102-1).
- Workability: Profiles can be easily mitered, planed, sanded, and filled using standard woodworking machinery and hand tools.
Product Line Diversity and Dimensional Profiles
The Polure Architectural Pediments and Crowns collection is categorized into three functional groups designed to meet specific architectural requirements: standard interior pediments, window and door casing pediments (facade headers), and border pediments. Each model is produced in specialized steel or silicone molds using advanced precast casting techniques to ensure crisp details and identical dimensions across large production runs.
Casing Pediments for Exterior Facades
Exterior door and window openings require robust profiles capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions. The large-scale model P1470A casing pediment (108x2400x422 mm) is engineered specifically for grand portal entries and main window headers on residential and commercial facades. Because unpainted polyurethane is susceptible to UV discoloration over time, applying a UV-resistant exterior paint is mandatory for all outdoor installations. These profiles do not absorb rainwater or freeze, preventing the typical cracking associated with concrete or stone headers.
Border Pediments and Standard Interior Pediments
For interior wall layouts, cabinetry crowning, and doorway framing, smaller-scale profiles provide clean geometric and floral transitions. Models such as the P215 (54x1280x230 mm), P215A (69x1280x251 mm), and P215B (64x1280x290 mm) serve as exceptional border pediments that integrate smoothly with wall paneling systems. For standard door lintels and mirror frames, the standard Architectural Pediments and Crowns series including P2834 (101x846x285 mm), P2835 (61x832x255 mm), P2836 (65x840x271 mm), and P2832L (73x906x282 mm) offer elegant proportions. Additionally, compact designs like P2832 (52x620x194 mm) and P2833 (42x828x230 mm) allow for subtle decorative enhancements in rooms with limited ceiling heights.
Surface Preparation and Coating Guidelines
All Polure profiles are shipped with a factory-applied primer coat that prepares the polyurethane surface for final painting. This industrial coating accepts both water-based and synthetic topcoats. However, paint manufacturers typically do not guarantee adhesion or longevity unless their proprietary primers are applied first. For this reason, the application of an additional primer layer prior to final painting is optional and remains at the sole discretion of the client. Polure does not guarantee paint performance or accept liability for paint-related failures.
Usage Areas
Polure high-density polyurethane Architectural Pediments and Crowns are highly versatile architectural elements utilized in both interior and exterior decoration. In interior design, they are commonly installed as decorative headers above main entrance doors, interior doorways, and large window frames to create a sense of vertical scale. They are also widely used in custom furniture design, serving as the crown molding for tall built-in bookcases, wardrobes, and kitchen cabinetry. In luxury residential projects, they serve as decorative mantelpieces above fireplaces or as framing elements for large, wall-mounted mirrors. Externally, these weather-resistant pediments are applied as window hoods (facade casing pediments) on villa facades, luxury hotel portals, and historical restoration projects, where they replicate classical stonework without the associated weight or installation complexity.
Installation
Successful installation of polyurethane Architectural Pediments and Crowns requires systematic preparation and the correct materials. Begin by ensuring that the mounting surface is clean, dry, and free of dust or grease. Measure the installation area precisely and cut the polyurethane profiles using a fine-tooth hand saw or a miter saw set to 45 degrees. Apply a generous amount of polyurethane (PU) mounting adhesive to the mounting channels on the rear of the profile. Do not use silicone adhesive, as it lacks the chemical bond strength required for polyurethane. Press the profile firmly onto the wall; the lightweight nature of the material provides immediate grab, but mechanical fastening with screws is mandatory to secure the piece during the adhesive curing phase. Once the adhesive has cured, fill all joint lines and screw holes with an appropriate exterior-grade acrylic filler. Sand the filled areas using 180-220 grit sandpaper to achieve a seamless finish. Apply an optional primer coat if required by your paint manufacturer, followed by two coats of high-quality paint. For exterior projects, a UV-resistant topcoat is mandatory.
Care Information
The maintenance of polyurethane Architectural Pediments and Crowns is simple due to the material's non-porous, closed-cell surface. Regular cleaning can be performed using a soft microfiber cloth dampened with water and a mild, non-abrasive household soap. Avoid using harsh chemical solvents, thinners, bleach, or highly acidic cleaners, as these can degrade the paint finish. For exterior applications, it is recommended to inspect the joint lines and filler areas annually to ensure no structural shifting of the building has caused minor hairline cracks. Any such gaps can be easily repaired with a flexible exterior sealant and touched up with matching UV-resistant paint.
