A decorative architectural capital is the column capital, a polyurethane decorative element that crowns the top of a column or pier. In classical architectural order it is used to decorate and connect the transition between the column shaft and the beam it carries. The polyurethane capital is lightweight and is applied to the top of the column with mounting adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell, and can be painted. Being far lighter than a marble or stone capital, it is easy to install and requires no additional support.
