Decorative column and capital is the component in which the shaft forming a column and the capital piece sitting on top of the shaft are considered together. The capital completes the transition between the shaft and the ceiling; in Doric, Ionic or Corinthian form it defines the column's character. Indoors they are used in living rooms and transition areas, and outdoors on entrance and arcade columns together.
