Polyurethane Ionic Capital

A polyurethane ionic capital is the polyurethane version of the column capital of the classical Ionic order, with its characteristic curled spiral form known as a volute. It is used on the upper part of columns and pilasters, at the transition between the shaft and the entablature, as a load-bearing-looking ornamental feature. Polyurethane is lightweight and is applied to the column shaft with mounting adhesive; unlike heavy stone capitals, it needs no additional support. It resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell, and can be painted after priming. Because it is mould-cast, the spiral volute details on either side are symmetrical and repeat identically on every piece. Polure produces ionic capitals in sizes suited to different column diameters.
