A pilaster capital is the polyurethane head piece placed on the upper part of a pilaster, the half-embedded decorative column on a wall, finishing the body against the ceiling or cornice line. On facade and interior walls it sits over the pilaster body to complete the classical architectural detailing. The polyurethane material is lightweight and is applied directly with mounting adhesive; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell or warp, and can be painted. As it is lighter than its plaster or timber equivalent, it is easy to mount at high points. Because it is mould-cast, the relief details repeat identically on every piece.
