A polyurethane column lower base is the polyurethane piece at the very bottom where the column shaft meets the floor, seating the shaft on its base. It visually carries the column's load down to the floor and creates a profiled transition between the shaft and the floor. In decorative column arrangements it is placed beneath the shaft. The polyurethane material is lightweight and is applied with adhesive and dowels; it resists moisture, frost and impact, does not crack or swell and can be painted. It is far lighter than a stone base and installs faster; it is also unaffected in the damp zone near the floor.
