decorative column base

The decorative column base is the bottom element on which the column shaft rests on the floor. It connects the shaft to the floor, visually completes the column and is the part that sets the column's proportion in classical architecture. Indoors it is used in living rooms and transition areas, and outdoors at entrances and arcades together with the shaft. The polyurethane base is light and applied directly with construction adhesive; it can be supported with screws if needed. The material resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell or peel, and can be painted; it has an advantage over wood in areas in contact with floor moisture.
