A column base socket is the polyurethane base piece that seats at the lower end of a column shaft and connects it to the floor. It is used to emphasise where the column meets the floor and to provide visual continuity. The polyurethane column base is lightweight and applied with installation adhesive to the floor and shaft; it resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell, and can be painted. Being lighter than a stone or gypsum base, it makes installation easier.
