A decorative column pedestal is the square or rectangular block placed under the column shaft that raises it. It lifts the column a set height off the floor, adjusts its proportion and forms the lower section in a classical column arrangement. Indoors it is used in living rooms and entrance areas, and outdoors in arcades and porches together with the shaft. The polyurethane pedestal is light; it is fixed to the floor and shaft with construction adhesive and supported with screws if needed. The material resists moisture and impact, does not crack, swell or peel, and can be painted; it has an advantage over wood in areas in contact with the floor.
